Welcome!

Creative movement for young children in State College!

Announcement July 7, 2020: Letter from Miss Valerie

It is with no small amount of sadness that I write to let you know that I have made the tough decision not to reopen Movement Arts Studio. For the past 18 years, it has been my privilege to dance with so many wonderful children and meet such amazing families. You have all brightened my life, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to share my love of dance with you.

The studio has also been home to a number of other kinds of classes, including yoga, clogging, Pilates, ballet, modern dance, and belly dance, and we have loved bringing all of that joy of movement to our community!

So although the studio is closing, the dancing continues! We have been having a great time dancing over Zoom and I plan to continue this as long as dancers want it. I’m also open to the possibility, once I feel comfortable bringing a group of dancers together in person, of finding another space for us to continue our creative movements.

This time is full of so much that is hard, and this decision was not easy. But ultimately I will always err on the side of caution, especially when it comes to the health and well-being of children and their families. Part of my dance philosophy is to not only teach children how to jump over a mud puddle or freeze like a mouse but also to instill a love of movement and let each child experience self-expression through dance. These lessons are ones you can practice every day, in your home, in the park, down the sidewalk! My great hope is that whatever path your children take through life, they find a way to do it with love and joy.
